The effect of raspberry extract on oral cancer

Feb 15, 2024

Raspberry is the fruit of a rubus plant in the Rosaceae family. It is the aggregate fruit of the raspberry plant. It is known as the third-generation golden fruit. It is mainly distributed in the frigid and temperate zones of the northern hemisphere. Health care products, cosmetics and other industries.

The main chemical components of raspberry are terpenes, flavonoids, alkaloids, steroids, carbohydrates, ellagic acid, superoxide, vitamins and phenolic acids, etc., especially anti-aging substances, superoxide dismutase and anti-cancer substances The content is higher than the existing cultivated and wild fruits, and the content of each compound in the raspberry medicinal samples from different origins is quite different. It has significant anti-tumor, anti-oxidation, improvement of immune function, lowering of blood sugar and blood fat, lowering blood pressure, eliminating fatigue, improving learning and memory, regulating gonadal axis, anti-aging and anti-inflammatory and other pharmacological effects.

It was previously reported that different concentrations of raspberry extracts have inhibitory effects on the proliferation of human primary liver cancer cells and lung cancer cells, and show a dependence on the time of drug concentration. High concentrations of extracts can inhibit prostate cancer and breast cancer. The growth of cancer tumor cells can even induce apoptosis. The latest study evaluated the inhibitory effect of raspberry extract on the invasion and metastasis of oral cancer tumor cells. Matrix metalloproteinase overexpression is related to the high sensitivity and lethality of cancer, and plays a key role in tumor invasion, angiogenesis and tumor metastasis. Matrix metalloproteinase inhibitors can inhibit tumor development in various cancer animal models .

Raspberry extract was added to SCC-9 and SAS oral cancer cell lines. Through RT-PCR, western blotting and zymography, it was shown that the messenger RNA, protein expression and enzyme activity of metalloproteinase-2 in the matrix were all down-regulated And the phosphorylation of focal adhesion kinase, src and extracellular signal-regulated protein kinase was also significantly inhibited. However, vimentin and epithelial cell cadherin related to epithelial-mesenchymal transition did not change. This study revealed for the first time that raspberry extract can inhibit the invasion and metastasis of human oral cancer by regulating the Erk1/2 signaling pathway and down-regulating MMP-2, indicating that high concentrations of raspberry extract may have an auxiliary effect on the treatment of oral cancer patients. However, the study did not specify which components in the extract exerted an anti-cancer metastasis effect, and animal experiments and clinical experiments are also needed to confirm its corresponding anti-cancer effect.

At present, there are more medicinal researches on raspberry, but there are few researches on health food and other aspects. All parts of raspberry can be used. Researchers have also reported that the extract of raspberry leaves can inhibit the growth of tumor cells in colon cancer. Raspberry fruit, Seeds, roots and leaves can be used as medicine. my country is a country with rich species of raspberries. There are 210 species of raspberries in China, which are distributed in most parts of the country. For example, there are 137 species of raspberries in Yunnan. In summary, we can see the raspberry resources Development and utilization have good social and economic benefits, and raspberry extract has broad prospects for development.
